MAGO (CEO Taehoon Kim) participated in ‘CES 2023’, held in Las Vegas, USA for 4 days between January 5th (Thurs) and 8th (Sun, local time).
As a sports tech startup, MAGO recently showcased their product, ‘GyroSpeed’, on the market. This product uses a gyro sensor to detect the starting and ending points of the user’s pitching motion and calculates the maximum acceleration and gyro sensor acceleration for each section. It uses this a base to predict the user’s pitching speed and displays this on the OLED screen mounted on the product.
The point of the product is to use such functions to aid pitching training. It can intuitively check the changes in pitching speed based on the speed of the arm motion and it gives immersion and motivation in training with its instant feedback. It also automatically saves the repetition of training to allow you to check the amount you’ve trained and can also be set for specific targets to help with goal-oriented, systematic training.
MAGO’s GyroSpeed underwent crowdfunding on Wadiz, a Korean crowd funding platform, for 1 month in March, with the goal of raising 15 million KRW. As a result, it was able to have the accomplishment of raising 50.388 million KRW, 503% of the set goal, from 492 supporters. It was able to prove its interest from consumers in this way, and it currently is expanding its sales channels, opening its own online store and entering Korean and overseas open markets.
Taehoon Kim, the CEO of MAGO, said that, “To improve pitching capabilities, a tool to reduce the risk of injury while providing consistent training aid is desperately needed. However, there have not been improvements in performance for a long time amongst existing products in the relevant markets, and stayed at a level that relied on the patience of the users,” and went on to continue to reveal the development background of the product, saying, “As such, our company believed that a product that will expand the horizons of the market and help keep the interest of people newly interested in baseball was needed, and ended up devising and developing GyroSpeed.”
He went on to say, “As this is the biggest of all global trade shows, we expect to be able to find a buyer that will be able to take care of GyroSpeed’s distribution in the US online sports market, through CES,” and added that, “We also intend to raise the synergistic effect for the crowd funding we are currently conducting in the US, through active product promotion.”
‘CES’ is the world’s biggest IT trade show and is a place where one can see the direction and trends of the appliance industry of the entire world. Hosted by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), it is held annually in Las Vegas, USA in January.
