[Try Everything 2022] Toonimotion, meets Webtoon Fans’ Expectations with ‘Short-Form Series Animation’ that Reduces the Production Period and Improves the Quality!

Toonimotion (CEO Kyu-Seok Cho) participated in the ‘Try Everything 2022’ festival held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) from September 21st (Wednesday) to the 23rd (Friday).

Established in 2019, Toonimotion currently produces series animations of around 20 popular webtoons that are serialized on famous webtoon platforms such as Naver Webtoon, Kakao Page etc. They have been providing the OTT platform with excellent popular webtoons that are made into immersive series animation. Additionally, their core businesses include mainly producing original webtoon work based animations, as well as distribution and OST business and OST production technology development.

Toonimotion received seed investment from a web-novel based webtoon production company called Jakga Company in 2021, and a total on 1 billion KRW from Logan Ventures in 2022 for project investment. It secured video commercialization rights of more than 20 popular webtoon IPs that are currently serialized on famous webtoon platforms such as Naver Webtoon, Kakaopage, etc.

Above all, Toonimotion has been showing remarkable results in the domestic OTT market. In 2022, Toonimotion produced animations for the ‘Eye Level of You and Me’ and ‘The Sweet Girl’, launched it on Laftel, Korea’s largest OTT platform that specializes in animation, and received excellent results of ranking 1st and 2nd place in real-time popularity, respectively.

This year three more additional works are being produced, and it includes the mega-hit ‘Lowest Rank Soldier to Monarch’, which the original web novel accumulated more than 11 million views.

Toonimotion’s target is the adult group with actual purchasing power for contents. Adults in their 20s or more are familiar with the digital environment and prefer short-form video contents. In particular, they are the actual purchasing class of Webtoons and OTT platforms, and clearly show their propensity to consume regarding what they want. 

A Toonimotion personnel revealed, “We plan to introduce content that reflects the characteristics of comsumers in their 20s and present OTT-only platform service based on that.”

Toonimotion produces short-form series animation using popular webtoon IPs that are completed. It uses 2/3 of the webtoon manuscript and adds necessary sources to further enhance the video. The production period was reduced innovatively by omitting all the complicated processes of making the storyboard, original picture, moving picture, coloring, editing etc., and using the Digital Cut Out editing technology instead, which enabled imaging the feeling of the original character as is. In comparison to the production cost and period of the existing TV animations, the production cost was reduced by 1/10 and the production period by 1/8.

Meanwhile, the city of Seoul has been selected as a Global TOP 10 city to start a business. Various players of the startup ecosystem, such as global corporations, investment institutions, unicorn companies, and the media will attend to accelerate the invigoration of the Seoul startup ecosystem. Accordingly, over 40 programs, such as competitions, lectures, and seminars, will be held at Try Everything 2022, and various global institutions and Korean and foreign startup ecosystem experts, such as South Summit, Extreme Tech Challenge, Startup Genome, and the U.S. EMBASSY & CONSULATE, will be in attendance.
