In 2021 Korea International Safety & Health Show, the global news network AVING News selected companies to receive the BEST OF KISS 2021 award.
For this award, AVING News selected outstanding products based on product technology, innovation, marketability, design, and audience response. The companies will get separate news articles so that they can utilize it, and the news will also be posted in English.
About 120 companies related to safety and health products from home and abroad participated in this exhibition. The venue has been moved from COEX to KINTEX this time. Also with a scale of 470 booths, more than 10,000 new products and new technologies covering safety, health, construction, work environment improvement, environment, sanitation, quarantine, firefighting, and other safety-related fields like protective gear, were exhibited. Especially, as the Severe Accident Punishment Act will come into effect in January 2022, interest in safety and health grew, and this social sentiment has been implemented in this exhibition.
The companies selected for “BEST OF KISS 2021” are as follows. △3M Korea △Hancom Lifecare △Gastron
| 3M Korea participates in KISS 2021… “Will devote ourselves to technology development for a more pleasant and safe working environment”
3M Korea was founded in September 1977 as a joint venture between 3M USA and Doosan Group. In 1996, 3M acquired 49% of Doosan Group’s share and made it a 100% subsidiary of 3M. Currently, 3M Korea is supplying more than 17,000 different products ranging from optical film, medical care, safety, electronics/electricity, automobile manufacturing, construction, power and communication, and consumer and office supplies.
Especially, 3M developed the world’s first dust-proof mask, and is supplying industrial safety protection equipment. In Korea, it has large-scale manufacturing facilities in Naju, Jeollanam-do and Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, and a technology research center in Dongtan, Gyeonggi-do, operating integrated technology development-manufacturing-marketing-sales.
Kim Seon-jong, manager of 3M Korea, explained, “The dust mask introduced at this exhibition has better adhesion than the generally used MFDS-certified mask, which makes it easier for workers to breathe and provides excellent protection.”
The types of respirator are also different depending on the hazardous substances. As for the dust mask, the filter itself adheres to the face, and a direct-connected mask uses a silicone or thermoplastic plastic frame to attach the filter to the face. There is also a device that attaches an electric motor and supplies the outside air through a filter to make it easier for workers to breathe.
Regarding future plans, he said, “In Korea, the law enforcement for safety of companies are strengthened with the enforcement of the Chemical Substances Control Act and Severe Accident Punishment Act to be implemented in 2022. So with the safety and health awareness is growing, we expect to see the market growing bigger. As a respirator company, 3M is also making specialized eyewear and protective clothing products to ensure compatibility with respirator, and we plan to further develop products in line with the trend of strengthening safety and health in the future.”
| Hancom Lifecare participates in KISS 2021… “Will maximize user convenience and stability with innovative products!”
Since its foundation in 1971, Hancom Lifecare has been leading the Korean personal safety equipment market by developing technology and introducing innovative products. Based on 50 years of know-how and Hancom Group’s ICT technology, Hancom Lifecare is gradually expanding its scope to the domestic, military, firefighting, and industrial markets as well as smart city public safety. Also, Hancom Lifecare’s various products are exported to the global market, and the superiority in technology and quality is being recognized.
ICT convergence air respirator SCA 10 introduced at this exhibition is Korea’s first IT convergence air respirator with a two-way monitoring system and ergonomic design. The communication function was strengthened by introducing an integrated face part, and it was designed with a right-angle valve, an electronic pressure gauge, and a hose buried design to maximize the user’s convenience and stability.
The SCA 10 is a product that can communicate in real-time even underground with the existing air respirator, which only served the purpose of respiration. Users can use short-distance and long-distance communication with ease. With a built-in loudspeaker, users can communicate to people in close proximity even while wearing a facepiece. In addition, since there is a built-in microphone and ear speaker in the facepiece, users can even communicate remotely using a walkie-talkie. SCA 10 provides convenience to users in the sense that walkie-talkie can be used without having to take off the facepiece.
Son Jin-young, Deputy Manager of Hancom Lifecare, said, “More than 3,000 of the ICT convergence air respirator SCA 10 was sold in the fire departments in Korea, and it is maintaining an unrivaled market share in the industry. Also, at the “10th Firefighting Industry Awards,” we received the Presidential Award in the Technology category.”
He then said, “We plan to continuously upgrade our products by reflecting consumer feedback. The most important thing to consider right now is ‘weight.’ We believe that reducing the weight of the product is the biggest challenge now, and we will focus on increasing the convenience of users.”
| Gastron participates in KISS 2021… “Introducing a portable gas detector optimized for worker safety!”
Gastron is a gas detector manufacturer established in 1992. After nearly 30 years of research and development of gas detectors, the company succeeded in localization. Also, it is developing and manufacturing various safety devices such as flame detectors, warning lights, and receiver panels as well as industrial gas detectors.
G-Finder Single and G-Finder Multi introduced at this exhibition are entry-level products that boast excellent performance at reasonable prices. G-Finder Single can detect one type of material among oxygen, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen sulfide, and G-Finder Multi detects a total of four substances simultaneously: oxygen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, and combustible gas.
It also runs for two consecutive years without charging, which is different from other company’s products. It has received explosion-proof certifications from Korea and overseas, and it is easy to use. Since its launch in 2019, it has been responsible for safety in various industrial sites, and especially in confined spaces where suffocation accidents are frequent, it plays an important role that is directly related to the workers’ lives.
Lee Dong-il, Deputy Manager of Gastron, said, “We are ranked first with a market share of 70% in Korea. In 2020, we became the first company in the industry to reach more than 100 billion won in sales. In addition, based on more than 500 certifications overseas, we have also won the industry’s first 10 million dollar export tower.”
He then said, “I think the smart factory based on IoT is a market trend. In line with market trends, we are also planning to continuously research and develop wireless communication-enabled products and introduce them to consumers. Also, we have all of the overseas certifications, and we are going to put more effort into expanding overseas exports.”
