The Ministry of SMEs and Startups Holds ‘Korea-US Startup Summit’ in New York… Korean Startups Establish Global Networks!

- A place for key members of the startup and venture ecosystem such as American global companies, investors, and startups in the US and Korean corporations and startups to come together and collaborate created

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Young Lee) revealed that they would be holding the ‘Korea-US Startup Summit’ for 2 days between September 20 (Tues) and 21 (Wed, NY, USA local time) in Pier 17 NY, USA with the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development (Director Yongmoon Kim), and the Korea Venture Investment Corporation (CEO Youngmin Lee).

The ‘Korea-US Startup Summit’ is one of the tasks drawn up and announced by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups on this past September 8th (Thurs) as part of the ‘Global Network Establishment and Overseas Base Expansion’ part of the greater ‘K-Startup Global Expansion Strategy’.

With this ‘Korea-US Startup Summit’ as the start, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups is planning to begin its support of the global expansion of K-startups in earnest.

This ‘Korea-US Startup Summit’ is meaningful in the sense that it provides global American companies, investors, and startups in America and Korean conglomerates and startups with various networking opportunities in New York (Silicon Alley), a place with a well-developed startup ecosystem and IT industry.

Through this, members of both countries’ startup ecosystem can connect with each other to grow together, and K-startup can be expected to branch out into the whole world.

The event is scheduled to have over 200 people in attendance, including people from Korea-US corporations, American venture capital (VC) and accelerators (AC), as well as Korea-US startups.

The site will be composed of a joint exhibition hall of 3 big corporations, which are Google, Hyundai Motors, and Naver Cloud, and 15 startups. A total of 10 programs will be operated over two days, including key events.

Outstanding technology and items of startups will be showcased to the US startup ecosystem, and a successful collaboration model of global corporations and startups is scheduled to be introduced as well through the joint corporation-startup exhibition hall.

Minister Young Lee said that, “This event is a serious attempt of the government and startups to help startups expand globally, based on the public confidence of the government,” and emphasized that, “it will serve as an opportunity for key players of the Korea and US startup and venture ecosystem to come together in one location to work closely together for the growth of K-startups.”

He went to reveal that, “We expect that practical help in networking, company promotion, and investment attraction will be given through the IR, biz-matching, and booth exhibition of Korean startups attending the event.”
