[Pangyo Tech] Papaya presented their ‘indoor positioning system’ at Pangyo Techno Valley’s YouTube channel… “Location service working even indoors!

On the last 6th, broadcaster Alex Sigrist interviewed Tae-yeop Kim, CEO of 'Papaya' at the Gyeonggi Startup Campus Promotion Hall.

Artificial intelligence (AI) indoor·outdoor positioning technology startup Papaya (CEO Tae-yeop Kim, Young-Jun Jeon) Introduced positioning technology for their AI indoor·outdoor positioning through Pangyo Techno Valley’s YouTube channel which is known for global IT·BT·CT·NT-focused global convergence R&D hub cluster.

Papaya was established in 2013 by a group of key personnel who have been working in Korea's leading map service providers such as Naver, Kakao, and INAVI. To improve the fact that the location-based service using GPS can be used only outdoors, they developed a positioning technology that can find the location even indoors.

Existing indoor positioning technology uses a method that an expert collects data for indoor positioning by installing expensive dedicated equipment in an area where GPS does not work. This method costs a lot to start with and needs long installation period, which made customers hard to use indoor positioning.

In order to respond to this demand, Papaya developed an indoor positioning system so that GPS (Global Positioning System)-based LBS (Local-Based Service) can be used inside buildings. They are creating sensor map image through in-house developed PNN deep learning technique by capturing wireless signal patterns such as Wi-Fi, communication network signals, and Bluetooth distributed in certain places in the city center. The fact that the positioning service is possible only with a smartphone without additional equipment using AI make their technology special.

In fact, ESG management and Serious Accident Punishment Act are emphasized, interest in safety is increasing, which is attracting attention from companies operating safety management systems based on the location of people in places such as power plants, train stations, and construction sites.

Papaya, which conducted the demonstration at the 2nd Pangyo Techno Valley in Gyeonggi Business Growth Center located in Seongnam City, Gyeonggi, said, “Until last year, we developed the technology and tried to make meaningful demonstration cases such as construction sites, tunnels, large marts, and subway stations by releasing MVP products. Based on this, we are proceeding with full-fledged business by conducting demonstration projects with the Korea Electric Power Plant and Pangyo while upgrading our technologies and products in earnest this year.”

They continued, “It is important to test the technology developed by our company in various types of buildings. Pangyo’s environment is suitable for testing our technology because there are many newly built large buildings. In addition, we are upgrading it to a SaaS type product, so it is easier for customers to use our technology.
