[Pangyo Tech] MOPIC enters the German microscope market

MOPIC, a childcare company nurtured by Gyeonggido Business & Science Accelerator, announced on the 3rd that it will provide key technologies to Germany’s “Solectrix.”

MOPIC is a metaverse startup that has ‘light field 3D display technology’ that allows users to see stereoscopic images without wearing VR (virtual reality) devices or 3D glasses. Following the recent selection of related technology suppliers such as Samsung Electronics and LG U+, it attracted investments from Samsung Electronics and Samsung Venture Investment.

Solectrix is a German company that provides digital transformation solutions which convert analog optical microscopes into digital microscope systems. In order to reflect “Binocular Parallax” that can be felt in analog microscopes exactly into a digital screen, MOPIC’s light field 3D technology was adopted and applied to Solectrix’s “sinaSCOPE” lineup.

Bilateral parallax refers to the parallax between the two eyes that observe slightly different images when looking at the same object because the left and right eyes are in different positions, and it helps people recognize the exact three-dimensional effects and depth. MOPIC’s light field 3D technology uses this principle to be implemented as it is on a flat display.

In addition to light field 3D technology, MOPIC will provide a customized total solution optimized for customer needs by combining software algorithms that provide consistent three-dimensional effects at any location with optical technologies that show clear high-resolution stereoscopic images without afterimage.

Solectrix’s primary goal is achieving 1% of the German microscope market. It is a business that generates more than 15 billion won in annual sales,” a MOPIC official said. “We are being well-received by customers engaging in microscope digital transformation business in the U.S. and the U.K.”

Meanwhile, MOPIC was spun off from Samsung Electronics in 2015 and was selected for the 2020 Startup Leap Package Jungle Program of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development and is receiving customized support such as commercialization support and mentoring of managing organization the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy & Innovation.
