Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 8th that it created “SW Development Security Hub” in Pangyo’s 2nd techno valley information security cluster to support SMEs’ software development security and strengthen response to ransomware.
Software development security refers to activity that minimizes vulnerabilities when developing software or modifying it. When security is embedded from the development stage of software, not only does security get strengthened but also maintenance costs for removing vulnerabilities decrease.
In October last year, the government implemented software industry promotion act to provide a legal basis of software development security for SMEs and this year opened “SW Development Security Hub” that offers related complex services.
SW Development Security Hub provides services such as diagnosis, education and second hand experience of vulnerabilities in source code security for SMEs. The government expects that it would be of great help for SMEs which struggle with deploying software development security due to cost and lack of expertise.
SW Development Security Hub is composed of “diagnostic room for vulnerabilities in security,” “diagnostic verification room,” and “broadcasting studio.”
Diagnostic room for vulnerabilities in security is equipped with diagnostic tools and diagnostic experts. It is a place where companies can use diagnostic services for vulnerabilities in source code security.
Companies can choose between in-person visit for diagnosis at SW Development Security Hub and a diagnostic expert’s trip to the company.
Director General for Cyber Security and Network Policy Bureau Jin-bae Hong of Ministry of Science and ICT said, “various projects including source code security vulnerability diagnosis, developer education and best practice contest would be carried out to promote software development security.” “SW Development Security Hub is one of the core projects and we would strengthen security in SMEs with a lack of security capabilities thereby creating a K-cyber quarantine system where Koreans and businesses can feel safe from surging cyberattacks such as ransomware.”
Pangyo Technovalley is an innovation hub for global companies comparable to the Silicon Valley in the US, Zhongguancun in China, and STATION F in France. It is an Asia tech hub with 1,259 IT, BT, CT, and NT companies that possess innovative products and technologies. With the support of innovative companies with global capabilities such as Kakao, Naver, AhnLab, Krafton, NCSoft, Nexon, and Hancom, companies in Pangyo Technovalley recorded 107 trillion won in sales last year. Investment and infrastructure growth in Pangyo is expected to continue, with the Metaverse hub entering Pangyo this year.
