Flex (CEO Soon-il Yoon), a mental care startup, introduced ‘Kids Diary’ through the YouTube channel of Pan-gyo Techno Valley, the global convergence R&D hub cluster and global center of IT, BT, CT, and NT.
Flex is a mental care company that was established in November 2019 when education experts with around 10 years of experience in education companies got together with psychoanalysts. It is composed of veterans that have worked in education companies and oversaw digital learning, smart learning, and oversaw EdTech for various ages.
They operate a mental care service that analyzes and figures out the mental state based on emotional data through AI and possesses systematic and specialized core technologies for ▲Emotional Expression Patterning ▲Early Diagnosis of Psychological Anxiety Symptoms ▲Continuity of Counseling.
‘Emotional Expression Patterning’ connects to psychoanalysis through the patterns in facial expressions, sounds, words, and actions that are shown when individuals express their personal expressions.
‘Early Diagnosis of Psychological Anxiety Symptoms’ is a solution that detects symptoms of emotional anxiety according to patterns of emotional expressions. When there is a recurrence of symptoms of psychological anxiety that continues starting from the point of discovery of symptoms or even after previously being treated, it is possible to have an early diagnosis and prevent it, based on the patterning of emotional habits of individuals.
‘Continuity of Counseling’ means that there is no need to start the counseling process from the beginning with a new psychologist when a psychologist that had continued in-person/ non-contact counseling retires or is moved to another region. The psychological counseling can be connected based on the accumulated psychoanalysis data.
It is possible for users to get an early diagnosis of psychological anxiety symptoms through these and can even prevent recurrences through continued observation. In addition, it becomes possible to have objective psychoanalysis through credible analysis.
Soon-il Yoon, the CEO of Flex, said that, “In order to make up for the problems in filling out forms in children’s psychological counseling centers or in online psychological tests and shyness in front of the psychologist in in-person meetings, we developed a platform that can naturally expose the processes of emotional acts expressed in daily life to AI and analyze it,” and went on to explain the background of the research, saying, “By providing a mental care service that can form good thinking and habits, we sought to create a base for a mental health managing environment that can continue to observe and treat children’s emotional anxiety within the family.”
As such, Flex released ‘Kids Diary’, the android application. For children who are suspected to have emotional anxiety symptoms but have poor Korean reading comprehension and emotional expression, their psychological state is analyzed through processing data related to emotional expression that is collected from the actions and utterances from daily life and AI data.
As the child fills out the journal according to topics (prompting psychological reaction) that are prompted by a character with video recording, the data from the emotions (facial expressions, sounds, words) that are subconsciously expressed are psychoanalyzed with AI and the character sends a response (animation) to the journal to provide psychological counseling and childcare (counseling) services.
Soon-il Yoon said that, “Our company simultaneous developed and announced apps for children and parents for a more detailed analysis and solution,” and revealed their plans, saying, “We possess over 150,000 points of emotional data covering videos, facial expressions, sounds, and emotional words, and we will try to discover various business models through additional processing of this data.”
He went on to say, “Pan-gyo is a place that has an optimized base for business growth through the latest technological trends and network. Through the partnership base between startups to make up for the parts of technical capabilities that are lacking in startups, our company received a lot of help,” and said that, “Using Korea as a platform to enter the global market, we are currently carrying out pilot projects in Washington D.C., USA, the Philippines, and Finland. We hope that children who are in the process of growing up can grow up bright and healthy through the platform our company developed.”
