Mobiltech (CEO Jae-seung Kim) participated in the Korea-U.S. Startup Summit, which was held from Sept 20th(Tues) to the 21st(Wed, local time) in Pier 17 in New York, USA.

Mobiltech, the AI-based 3D spatial information startup, was able to develop a 3D space scanner that is able to precisely replicate existing spaces to provide 3D spatial information, as well as hardware and software solutions. Since its founding, it has been able to provide a 3D data platform for self-driving vehicles and delivery robot services to 30 different places, including Silicon Valley and other foreign and domestic places. Currently it is expanding their range of business to include an immersive digital twin service which uses 3D precision maps, as well as establishing an expanded reality (XR) and metaverse service.

Since its establishment, it has reached a total of 10 billion KRW in sales and had its technological capabilities recognized by key systemically important financial institutions as well as Naver and Hyundai Motors, garnering a total of 8 billion KRW worth of investments.

Mobiltech’s services can largely be divided into the 2 services, one being the 3D city data solution, ‘Replica City’, and the other being sensor integration synchronization, ‘High Precision Sensor System’.

Replica City is an immersive location map that reflects the real world exactly and targets the private sector as well as local governments. Using their self-developed equipment which is mounted on a car, the city is scanned daily, and the places of interest (POI) which are recorded are formed a database (DB). These pieces of data go through automatic modeling post-processing to create an immersive 3D model.

A spokesman for Mobiltech said, “With the rise of various unmanned mobility services, there is a need for 3D road information, as well as information from cities that change every day. The map services we currently use get updated every 3~6 months, rarely being up to date, are not always accurate due to GPS errors, and the road information is expressed in a flat way, making them inadequate to back up new services and technology.” They then went on to explain that “3D spatial information is being actively used as foundational data with the demand in spatial information based in reality rapidly rising in various industries.”

They then went on to say, “Mobiltech is solving the issue of the time and cost that goes into data collection and processing in map production, through AI automation. The AI is trained using the collected data to develop technology for auto updating and detecting changes in spatial information, and to update 3D spatial information.”

Mobiltech uses their own sensor integration technology to produce high-precision map data that is accurate up to 3cm and uses an AI-based semantic algorithm to quickly and efficiently create 3D spatial information. In addition, using cameras/ LIDAR data and AI allows for the automatic detection and updating of points of spatial changes, and services the latest data to secure competitiveness of the map data.

Such technological capabilities allow Replica City to be used as core infrastructure for tailored metaverses wanted by B2B and B2G, and it can also provide big data for various points of interest (POI). Taking it further, it is not limited to just self-driving uses or even creating digital twins, but can be expanded into various services as well, such as in virtual production, simulations, and UAM.

Additionally, the high-precision sensor system has been creating a business portfolio by working together with Hyundai Motors as well as various universities and research labs since the early days of its founding.

A spokesman for the company said, “Using CES 2022 at the start of the year as a starting point, Mobiltech is working together with various companies and local governments, such as that of Seoul, Pohang, Daejeon, and Jeungpyeong, in the metaverse and digital twin businesses. We seek to maximize the synergy effect by expanding the opportunity to work together with organizations of each local governments and companies related to digital twin and metaverse through this event.”

They then went on to say, “In addition, the ‘Replica City’ region is set to get a massive expansion from just covering the Gangnam station area to cover the whole of Seoul. At the same time, the Gangnam region is being scanned and updated every day, which is then used as a base to create an immersive city model. We plan to showcase ‘Replica City Seoul’ in next year’s CES.”

On the other hand, the Korea-U.S.STARTUP SUMMIT hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups(Minister Young Lee) and supervised by the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development(Director Yongmoon Kim) and Korea Venture Investment is providing scene of network between South Korean startups and global companies, VC and startups from New York with the nickname Silicon Alley where ecosystem and IT industry are well-developed. Through this event, they are seeking new business models of K-startups and advances into the global market, and promotes domestic investment of global capital. During the event, a corporate PR booth (joint pavilion between large corporation-startup) was set up, and U.S. VC and investment attraction IR, AC, Tech Media, and meetups and seminars were held with companies succeeded to enter the U.S. market.
