The 36th Korea International Medical &Hospital Equipment Show (KIMES 2021) opened on Mar. 18 at COEX in Samseong-dong,Seoul.

At the opening ceremony, Yang Seong-il (1stVice Minister of MOHW), Kim Young-man (Manager of MOTIE), Kim Yoo-mi (ActingDivision Head of MFDS), Kwon Soon-man (Director of KHIDI), Lee Jae-hwa(Director of Kmdica), Yoo Cheol-wook (Chairman of KMDIA), and Kim Choong-han(Chairman of Kore E&EX) participated.

KIMES 2021 will be held at the largestscale of 40,000㎡ at all halls of COEX (A-D) and GrandBallroom, and 30,000 high-tech medical devices, hospital equipment, medicalinformation systems, healthcare/rehabilitation devices, and medical relateditems from 1,200 Korean and overseas companies will be displayed.

VIP participants encouraged the show forthe improvement of public health, development of medical technology, and thevitalization of medical and hospital-related industries, and an award ceremonywas also held. At the ceremony, people of merit who contributed to thedevelopment of the medical device industry and promotion of exports receivedcitations from the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee Chairman,MOTIE, MOHW, and MFDS.

KIMES 2021 was co-hosted by Korea E&EX,Kmdica, and KMDIA and sponsored by MOTIE, MOHW, MFDS, KOTRA, KHIDI, KoreanMedical Association, Korean Hospital Association, KMWA, Korean NursesAssociation, Korea Medical Device Distribution Association, Korea MedicalEngineering Association, and Medical Newspaper Company.

Starting with the opening ceremony on Mar.18, the event will be held in the entire exhibition hall for four days untilMar. 21 under thorough K-quarantine system. More than 1,200 Korean and overseascompanies will exhibit and introduce more than 30,000 items including high-techmedical devices, hospital facilities, medical information systems, healthcareand rehabilitation devices, and medical related products.

Global companies such as SamsungElectronics, DK Medical Systems, Listem, LG Electronics, SG Healthcare, DRGEM,DRTECH, GE Healthcare, and PHILIPS, along with healthcare companies like InBodyand Selvas Healthcare and medical information companies like BITCOMPUTER,Ubcare, and Eghis Healthcare, and other major medical companies like HanshinMedical (sterilizer), DS Maref (physical therapy), StraTek (physical therapy),Lutronic (laser treatment device), and Insung Medical (medical treatmentdevice) are participating with new products that reflect the rapidly changingmedical environment. In this year’s show, K-Quarantine Special Hall with mobilenegative pressure room for the COVID-19 treatment rooms developed by KAIST willbe unveiled.

In this year’s show, the optimalK-Quarantine system was implemented to take the safety of the exhibitors andvisitors as the top priority to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The entrance and exit of the exhibitionhall was strictly controlled, and a thorough quarantine procedure will betaken. When a temperature of 37.5 degrees or higher is detected by a thermalimaging camera or a facial recognition heat sensor, the visitor will take asecond measurement with a non-contact thermometer, and the decision to enter ornot will be made there. When entering, a full body disinfection gate and handsanitizer is used, disposable masks must be worn, and safety personnel werealso placed in the exhibition hall to guide safe viewing and check thecondition of wearing quarantine supplies.

Also, according to the quarantine system inthe exhibition hall, the path of exhibition will be strictly controlled andsocial distancing between the visitors will be kept to minimize the contact toprevent infection. The air conditioning facility will run every hour forventilation and the exhibition hall will be disinfected twice a day.

The exhibition will be divided intoTreatment and Medical Information Pavilion in Hall A, Healthcare &Rehabilitation Pavilion in Hall B/D and Grand Ballroom, Test and DiagnosisEquipment Pavilion in Hall C, and Diagnosis and Hospital Facility Pavilion inHall D.

As the field of medical devices expands toAI, deep learning, and robot science in addition to the existing medical deviceand the interest for the advanced parts and materials grows, MedicomteK 2021(Medical Device Parts & Materials Technology Exhibition) will be held atCOEX Hall D as a concurrent event, fully prepared to control COVID-19.

A global healthcare & medical tourismconference (Medical Korea 2021, KHIDI) will be held concurrently to increasebusiness synergy. Under the theme “Global healthcare, where your days beginagain,” conferences, seminars and briefing sessions, exhibition and publicrelations halls, and business export conferences are held simultaneously onlineand offline (COEX Grand Ballroom).

At the COEX Conference Center, variousspecialized medical information, including medical technology seminars,consulting seminars for opening hospitals, startup seminars, digital healthcareseminars, medical policy briefing sessions, and licensing related seminars willbe provided in response to the changing future medical environment. At MedicalKorea 2021 Conference, online sessions with the topics “Global Healthcare,”“Specialized Medicine Academic Exchange,” and “Global Competitiveness of KoreanMedicine” will be held, and during the exhibition, offline seminars such asforeign patient attraction project and medical overseas expansion project willbe held in the Medical Korea 2021 booth.

Also, the Korean Radiological TechnologistsAssociation Seoul Metropolitan Council and the Korea Physical TherapyAssociation Seoul Metropolitan Council will hold international symposium thatgive completion (training) points at the conference center on the 3rd floor ofthe COEX exhibition hall during the exhibition period.

| Overseas market development for Korean companies supported by non-face-to-face online/offline video export consultation

With the advent of a new normal era inwhich non-face-to-face digital conversion is accelerating in the COVID-19infection situation, KIMES will hold the “2021 Global Medical Equipment ExportConsultation (GMEP)” online and offline with KOTRA to open up new sales channelfor Korean companies. GMEP is a major convergence conference in the field ofmedical bio field organized by KOTRA, and export consultation will be conductedwith 220 Korean companies and 510 overseas buyers at the video consultationcenter on the first floor of the COEX Exhibition Hall for two days from Mar. 18during the KIMES exhibition period. In addition to the medical device onlineexport consultation, it will also hold a GP online briefing session and a GPonline export consultation for strategic alliances with global companies.
