Lutronic (CEO, Hae Ryung Hwang) participated in the 33rd Korea International Medical & Hospital Equipment Show (KIMES 2017), held at COEX from March 16th to 19th and presented its ophthalmic laser medical device, R:GEN which is based on retinal therapy platform technology.

Lutronics is specialized in laser medical equipment. It develops and supplies various kinds of types such as the plastic therapy laser medical device PICOPLUS, enCurve, LASEMD, etc., that are used for facial fat removal, tattoo removal, wrinkle and scar treatment, hair removal and skin regeneration. It exports more than $ 30 million annually to 60 countries.

Particularly, the macular smart laser treatment R:GEN, which has been approved by the Ministry of Food and Safety, European CE and the US FDA, is a device for treating diabetic macular edema and Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). Recently, it is going through administrative procedures with hospitals that will introduce selective retinal therapy as the Ministry of Health and Welfare expanded the subject to medical device system on a limited basis.

Based on the automated control technology that detects the microbubble response of RPE cells with a sensor, R:GEN, which treats the retina with laser treatment without damage to the photoreceptor, is expected to be a new alternative for patients with macular diseases that may lead to blindness.

CEO Hae Ryung Hwang said, "Through small-scale clinical trials, R:GEN is currently undergoing various tests to obtain more clinical efficacy. The implementation of the medical device system expansion on a limited basis not only is encouraging for early commercialization, but also for the accumulation of clinical evidence.” The CEO added, "We will expand the supply of R:GEN therapy to domestic ophthalmic clinics and accelerate overseas expansion based on accumulated clinical data."

Meanwhile, KIMES 2017 is Korea's largest exhibition for medical and hospital equipment. It presents new technology and products from all industries that have merged with the medical industry, such as ubiquitous healthcare through communication, medical waste facility that takes into account the environment, advanced hospital facility built with beautiful architectural technology, medical information system combined with IT, transportation for rapid patient transport from the automobile industry, etc.
