Roughly 2 billion shea trees grow wild across 21 African countries from Senegal to South Sudan, and 16 million people in rural areas collect fresh shea berries and kernels for processing. Shea provides various uses as edible oil, food, and as a cosmetic ingredient.

Currently, more than half of all shea exports in West Africa are processed into shea butter, shea stearin, and shea olein. Driven by the increased supply of new shea applications in food and cosmetics and increased investment in processing, global demand for shea products has increased significantly with around 800,000 tons being collected each year. In doing so, the shea industry is able to provide jobs and income to poor and marginalized communities.

At the exhibition, the 'NATURA' company from the GSA area introduced products that use shea butter. Shea butter is a vegetable fat extracted from the fruits of the African shea tree. It is called shea butter because it is solid at room temperature and melts into oil at near body temperature.

NATURA explained that shea butter is safe for all skin types and has excellent moisturizing capabilities. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and helps to produce collagen and promote cell regeneration. Shea butter is used as an ingredient in various cosmetic products, such as facial lotions, creams, body lotions, and lip balms. It is also known for its moisturizing abilities.

NATURA's Karim Adamon said, "We produce our own shea butter and make products ourselves. Since we make and manage all our products by hand from the beginning, we are confident in our price competitiveness and product quality."

He continued, "The GSA holds three meetings every year to help promote the industry. The GSA carries out various promotional plans to push their vision of being the best platform that meets strategic interests and practical needs. Conferences and exhibitions are held annually in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America, providing GSA members with a networking platform and technical expertise to industry officials.”
