ARIA Edge (CEO Jongil Park) attended the Korea-U.S. Startup Summit, which was held from Sept 20th(Tues) to the 21st(Wed, local time) in Pier 17 in New York, USA.

By providing AR (augmented reality) strengthened with AI (artificial intelligence), ARIA Edge aims for a frontier of expanding visual worlds for people, and the pioneering of an expanding and evolving business. With technology that crosses over between the real world and the virtual world, they can add computer graphics to the real world to conveniently provide more information than what is normally visible to the human eye or create an exact high-resolution replica of the real world in the virtual world of computer graphics. ARIA Edge’s AI+AR technology links the real and digital worlds and develops cutting-edge AR products needed on the sites of industries like manufacturing, construction, or logistics, so that companies can develop to be more efficient.

Jongil Park, CEO of ARIA Edge, started the first mixed reality lab (MRLab) in Korea at Hanyang University to plant his roots in academia and the industry. He started ARIA Edge in 2018, developed industrial AR technology in 2019, and released ‘ARIA Factory’, an industrial safety AR solution package, in 2020. This makes it possible to achieve DT in industrial sites, and is composed of 3 parts: ‘CollectAR’, an industrial equipment inspection solution which enables data management and proof of work, ‘CollabAR’, a remote collaboration solution, and ‘PassAR’, which inspects workers for their attire and checks if they are wearing their equipment properly.

CollectAR is a data management solution that integrates vision technology and AI technology to automatically read text and analog data to convert them into digital data. As it automatically saves location, time, and data to prevent errors and input omissions, it is able to prevent accidents and enable follow-ups (to prepare for the Serious Accident Punishment Act). In addition, ARIA Edge’s patented intelligent markets require less time for recognition compared to QR codes, and is difficult to counterfeit or tamper, making it strong in security. The marker can still be read even if it sustains over 30% of damage, allowing it to be used in rough industrial sites.

CollabAR is a collaboration tool solution that allows users on site to remotely communicate with experts without facing limitations in time or space in their collaboration. When there are issues or complicated work happening on site, users can use the AR Glass for a video call to communicate with an expert without the need of having the expert come to the site themselves. The remote experts can place arrows, texts, or drawings on the video sent by the users on site for live explanations, or they can add images to have live intuitive communication. This can be widely used in non-contact communication in Korea and overseas, in such cases as remote technical support, virtual education, and virtual meetings.

PassAR is a vision AI based attire and work equipment inspection solution. As a kiosk form access control system that can simultaneously check the identity of the worker as well as whether they are wearing their work attire or not, it checks the worker with RFID or iris recognition and recognizes various attires and work equipment in real-time with vision AI technology to make sure they are dressed appropriately for the work site to control their entry and exit.

If a worker breaks attire regulations more than 2 times, the manager is alerted in real-time through SMS, and their entry data is computerized to make the management of workers more efficient. It is an AI entry control system that can be applied in places that require things like protective clothing, sanitary clothing, gloves, or masks, like food factories, pharmaceutical laboratories, or semiconductor facilities. The PassAR smart mirror system is meaningful in that it makes workers inspect their own attire to ultimately lead to changes in awareness of worker’s safety and health. They are currently trying to get overseas patents with the differentiated product competitiveness of their industrial safety solution.

A spokesman for ARIA Edge said that, “In the early stages of the business, various PoCs were conducted and analyzed the needs of the industrial site, which led to the development of the CollectAR and CollabAR solutions. Conducting on-site meetings with the two solutions, we found that there was a demand for automatic data recognition. So we developed ARAI (analog gauge reading module) and DRAI (digital data reading module) modules for CollectAR to improve its competitiveness and make the solution more complete. ”

Not stopping there, ARIA Edge saw the needs of their clients for attire recognition and went on to develop PassAR, which gave it a lineup of 3 industrial safety solutions that used AR and vision AI technology to prevent accidents in industrial sites and consider the safety of workers.

With the B2B AR solution, which was developed in 2022, ARIA Edge signed an MOU with CJ OliveNetworks in April, beginning its business in earnest. In addition, they attended AWE USA 2022, the world’s biggest XR fair held in California, USA, in June, and started global marketing for their company and products, speeding up their global expansion.

A spokesman shared their business plan, saying, “By adding the ARAI and DRAI modules, which can automatically input analog gauges and digital gauges with OCR, on the CollectAR solution in the future, we are trying to expand the range of application and use. We are working on improving our solutions so that it can be used in fields that are our solutions cannot currently be used in, and we are planning the development of solution packages that are specialized for various fields of industry, such as the vision-based TRAI module that detects temperature to record and warn, ARIA-Logistics which uses location information and is specialized for the logistics industry, and ARIA-Construction which is specialized for the construction industry.”

They went on to reveal that they are planning to go public on KOSDAQ or NASDAQ by the first half of 2025, and that they also aim to be listed as a global AR TOP 50 company within 4 years through their business model and their endless technology and product development.

On the other hand, the Korea-U.S.STARTUP SUMMIT hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups(Minister Young Lee) and supervised by the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development(Director Yongmoon Kim) and Korea Venture Investment is providing scene of network between South Korean startups and global companies, VC and startups from New York with the nickname Silicon Alley where ecosystem and IT industry are well-developed. Through this event, they are seeking new business models of K-startups and advances into the global market, and promotes domestic investment of global capital. During the event, a corporate PR booth (joint pavilion between large corporation-startup) was set up, and U.S. VC and investment attraction IR, AC, Tech Media, and meetups and seminars were held with companies succeeded to enter the U.S. market.
