OCI Power (CEO Heo Ki-moo) participated in the International Green Energy Expo 2021 held at EXCO, Daegu from April 28 (Wed) to 30 (Fri) and introduced its new product lineup like OP2500 TL-H OD, the solar power outdoor inverter with system voltage of 1500V.

Founded in 2012 by global chemical and energy company OCI, OCI Power is developing solutions for solar power generation in its own research centers with excellent technology in Germany and Korea. It is manufacturing its products in the factory located in Gunsan, Jeonbuk. With this, it has been recognized for its technological prowess not only in Korea but also overseas, and has supplied equipment and materials to a 600 MW ultra-large solar power plant in Texas, US.

At the Green Energy Expo exhibition hall, AVING News met OCI Power’s Sales Operations Division Manager Kim Ha-jeong to interview on the 1500V solar power outdoor inverter.

Q1. Company introduction

A. Kim: OCI Power is an inverter manufacturer headquartered in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do. It provides optimized solution for the stable operation of power plants for customers from business development and also power plant construction, management operation, responsible completion and ESS utilization based on domestic and overseas solar power plant operation experience. Also, in January 2019, with the acquisition of Kaco New Energy Korean Branch, it has secured the best inverter technology including German technology in the equipment sector, and has improved quality completion and competitiveness.

Q2. Product introduction and achievements

A. Kim: Currently, there are not many companies that can supply 1500V inverters in Korea, but we have already delivered 1500V inverters last year. In particular, through this exhibition, we introduced a new multi-modular type large-capacity solar outdoor inverter capable of flexible plant configuration from 1.5 ㎿ up to 3 ㎿. With this product, we achieved 100 ㎿ performance at the solar power generation site in Anjwa-do, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do in October 2020.

Q3. What is the product warranty period?

A. Kim: The warranty period of the basic inverter product is five years, and the junction box and equipment are guaranteed for three years. There are separate technical service teams at the Seoul office and the head office in Gunsan, and we are operating two branches nationwide so that they can quickly provide the service within 48 hours.

Q4. How did the visitors react?

A. Kim: More people came than I expected. The response was good as many new products with KS certification were introduced, ranging from 1000V inverters to 1500V large-capacity inverters. I think the reaction was more positive because they finally got the chance to see and touch the products this time.

Q5. Future plans

A. Kim: The development lineup is now complete. We are aiming to accumulate results by winning more projects this year. In addition, we want to expand our business scope not only to solar power but also to various new and renewable energy fields. Since the parent company is the large company OCI, we are trying to become a model for other companies and strive for the solar power generation in Korea. It’s been a long time, two years, since we’ve been out exhibiting our products. I hope that COVID-19 l ends soon so that we have more opportunity to talk to our customers.

Q6. Thoughts on the Korean solar power generation industry

A. Kim: We had difficulty due to the delayed FIT (Feed in Tariff), which came out early this year. As the Korean FIT was supplied in 2021, I believe that Korea has now become a country suitable for investment. If the 15,000V market opens and FIT continues to be used, I think there will be an opportunity to obtain stable profits.

The 18th International Green Energy Expo is Korea’s largest, one of Asia’s top 3 and the world’s top 10 new and renewable energy exhibitions, and the only exhibition jointly organized by the four major associations. The exhibition covers △Solar power △ESS (energy storage system) & battery △Smart grid technology △Wind power and △New and renewable energy. This exhibition is hosted by Daegu Metropolitan City and Gyeongsangbuk-do and organized by EXCO, KNREA, KOPIA, KWEIA, and KHIA.
