Hanwha Q Cells participated in theInternational Green Energy Expo 2021 held at EXCO, Daegu from April 28 (Wed) to30 (Fri) and introduced its agricultural and on-water solar power modules.

Hanwha Q Cells has established itself as aglobal premium solar brand, solidifying its leading position in the solar powerindustry. In this exhibition, Hanwha Q CELLS showed its status as a leader inthe solar power industry by presenting a variety of portfolios suitable for theKorean market.

At the Green Energy Expo exhibition hall,AVING News met Hanwha Q Cells’ Part Leader Park Won to interview on itsagricultural and on-water solar power modules.

Q1. Company introduction

A. Park: Hanwha Q Cells is in charge ofHanwha Solutions' Green Energy Solutions. As a leading company in the solarindustry, Hanwha Q Cells has the No. 1 market share in major solar modulemarkets such as the US, Germany, and Japan.

Q2. About our product

A. Park: The products released at thisexhibition are specialized for the Korean environment. After thinking aboutways to efficiently utilize the narrow land area in installing solar powergenerators, the company came up with solutions that can be effectivelyinstalled on farmland and roofs.

Q3. Please explain about Hanwha Q Cell’s low carbon guarantee.

A. Park: Hanwha Q Cells was the first inKorea to obtain Grade 1 in carbon certification system. In the carboncertification system implemented by the government in July 2020, all of ourflagship products received Grade 1 in carbon emission. Also, it received Grade1 certification in France’s Carbon Footprint, a system similar to the carboncertification system.

The eco-friendly characteristics ofelectricity generated by solar power generation as well as the technology toreduce carbon during the manufacturing process was recognized.

Q4. What are the characteristics of agricultural products?

A. Park: The agricultural and on-watersolar modules have significantly improved performance compared to the productsthat we introduced last year. The advantage is that the performance per area isimproved compared to the previous modules. The product output increased by10-20%, and on-water type has improved in durability against moisture.Eco-friendly materials were used.

Agro-type solar power also has higheroutput than previous products, and a product with improved light transmittanceand construction method was introduced so that crops can photosynthesizebetter.

Q5. On performance

A. Park: Currently, 80% of the productionis sold overseas. It has been recognized overseas for its durability and brandvalue that can operate reliably even in harsh environments, and quality controlis two to three times better than before. The biggest performance is that itoccupies the no. 1 market share in advanced markets such as Europe and theAmericas.

Q6. How to promote to the general public

A. Park: Compared to the early 2010s, thecurrent awareness of solar power has improved a lot. However, the negativeperception or misunderstanding of solar power has not been completelyeliminated.

Therefore, we are not only selling andpromoting our products, but also trying to improve awareness through the press,YouTube, and various contents. We have been distributing the advantages ofphotovoltaic power generation to TV advertisements and major media for threeconsecutive years, and we are also actively using KTX and movie theateradvertisements.

Q7. Future plans and issues regarding the products to be released

A. Park: The products we have exhibited atthis exhibition are not the products we have already released. They are theproducts that we will release late this year and early 2022. We are going tofocus on the products that will be released two to three years later. This isto show the future solar power generation better than the present, and we willdo our best to show more development in the future.

The 18th International Green Energy Expo isKorea’s largest, one of Asia’s top 3 and the world’s top 10 new and renewableenergy exhibitions, and the only exhibition jointly organized by the four majorassociations. The exhibition covers △Solar power △ESS (energy storage system)& battery △Smart grid technology △Wind power and △New and renewable energy. This exhibition is hosted by Daegu Metropolitan City and Gyeongsangbuk-do andorganized by EXCO, KNREA, KOPIA, KWEIA, and KHIA.
