There seems to be a lot of excitement as of late about Green Energy Expo Korea (GEEK) which is the largest in Korea, Top 3 in Asia and Top 10 in the world. Korean global companies are scrambling to sign up for the space in Daegu fair.
PV industries are now facing a crisis as Korean companies are not an exception because the price of PV module has fallen sharply caused by economic recession from E.U. and U.S.A. However, lots of Korean major enterprises regard the situation as the opportunity and have participated in IGEEC at EXCO, Daegu. For this reason, IGEEC must undoubtedly turn itself into the best trade show related PV&Renewable Energy.
According to the Korea Photovoltaic Industry Association (KOPIA), as PV business activities become hard, companies make a decision that they will participate in the most reliable and largest one exhibition rather than participate in 3 or 4 subsidiary exhibitions in the past. It is actually reported that Samsung SDI(the core affiliate on PV industry of Samsung Group) made a platinum sponsorship contract for participation in only IGEEC in Daegu, Korea. In addition, it is known that another platinum sponsors Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hanwha Solar One, Woongjin Energy and other major Korean manufacturers are only going to participate in the trade fair in Daegu among Korean shows related PV&Renewable Energy.
Korean conglomerates seem to know how to turn crisis into opportunity from their experience in the past. It is announced that Korean TOP 30 companies are planning to invest approx. 150 trillion won this year. Their world top-class reputation in semiconductor and display industries and heavy industries came from their aggressive marketing strategies in a crisis.
IGEEC which is Top 3 of Asia's, Top 10 of world's PV&Renewable professional exhibition has grown by 40% every year since first held in 2004. From 28th to 30th on March, IGEEC takes place the biggest ever with 400 companies from 23 countries with 1,200 booths.L.
It is well known that GEEK has recorded the highest percentage of overseas businesses participation - 40~41% annually - among Asian PV&Renewable Energy exhibitions since 2006. Furthermore, it is one and only event that you can meet world-class companies such as Centrotherm from German which is the world's leading technology and equipment provider for the photovoltaic sector, SMA from German which is No.1 in the world for the production of inverter and SIEMENS from German which is global company for photovoltaic inverter and wind power field, ST microelectronics from France which is one of the world largest semiconductor companies with $ 9.73 billion revenue in 2011 and has around 12,000 researchers and 21,500 patents.
The greatest number of Korean major companies is going to participate in GEEK like Hyundai Heavy Industries who completes PV value chains first in Korea and is a high level of manufacturer in wind power sector, Samsung SDI which draws a lot of attention from PV companies all over the world, Hanwha Solar One which took over Solarfun in China and declared PV business as core business of Hanwha Group, Woongjin Energy who is a next generation leading enterprise and draws global attention in mono crystal wafer and ingot sector, LS Industrial System which promotes aggressively PV and wind power business for reaching the targeted sales 2 trillion won in green business industry by 2015. Also Daewoo Shipbuilding&Marine Engineering which is jumping up to be a leading company in wind power sector in the world firstly takes part in GEEK.
Besides, Korean mid-sized enterprises participate in GEEK. There are Shinsung Solar Energy who originally produces high efficiency cell but recently strengthens module business production, OSUNG LST which has the best technology in ingot production in the world, Hansol Technics which plans to expand PV module production to 100MV in the first year of the year and launch PV ingot&wafer business in the second year of the year, SemiMaterials, SPV, Hanwha TechM, Seunglim Carbon Metal, Dongjin Semichem, SFC. Moreover, as companies based on semiconductor and display industry has expanded entering to PV business, SJ INNO Tech, Hanmi Semiconductor, SNTECH, AVACO, Daejoo Electronic Materials, Susung Tech, FORTIX, Gana Trade, WOOIL HighTech take part in GEEK.
Despite of PV industrial depression, leading overseas companies continue to participate in GEEK such as Centrotherm which is Top 10 PV cell battery provider in the world, RENA, MANZ, Jonas & Redmann, Von Ardenne, ASYS, Rieckermann, Heraeus who holds more than 5,000 patents in PV sector, Talesun Solar, Schletter, ALD, Arnold Gruppe, Krannich Solar, and Lumberg Connect from German. Furthermore, there are Japanese companies such as Ferrotec, Napson, DENKEN, SANKO and Yokogawa. You can also have a chance to meet Chinese enterprises such as JingGong Science who is a representative equipment company in China, Renesola which is a global PV wafer manufacturer, GD Solar, Juli New energy, GZX, LongGi silicon, Shenglong PV which is listed on the KOSDAQ in Korea. In addition, European companies participate in GEEK such as ISOVOLTAIC (Austria) who is a global manufacturer for back sheet which is a key component in PV cell and module, PRYSMIAN (Italy) who is a wind power cable provider, SCANCON (Denmark) who is a global wind power encoder manufacturer, and Vesuvius (Belgium) which is an ingot crucible provider.
Another feature from the event, the participation of Korean and foreign inverter companies has shown noticeable growth in advance an enforcement of RPS(Renewable Portpolio Stardard) this year. The trade show also draws great attention because the greatest ever number of inverter companies participate in GEEK such as SMA which is No.1 inverter provider in the world, Refusol, Delta Energy from German, Emerson Electric, Outback Power from U.S.A, Hex Power System which recorded the highest sales in Korea last year, DASS Tech which recorded No.2 sales in Korea last year, DIK, DONGEI ECOS, Dong Yang E&P, Eco Power, eFree System, and SeolTech from Korea.
GEEK is already selected as International&Promising exhibition by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE) for 5 consecutive years in Korea. Moreover, GEEK also obtained international exhibition certification by UFI, the global association of the exhibition industry in abroad. International Green Energy Business Conference which is concurrently held GEEK is solely chosen as Star Convention by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) among energy-related events since 2010. It is already well known for the biggest International Business Conference on PV&Renewable Energy in Korea.
