The 35th International Medical Equipment & Hospital Equipment Exhibition (KIMES 2019) created for the improvement of the public health, medical technology development and the medical and hospital related industries opened Mar. 14th at COEX in Seoul.
Organized jointly by Korea E&EX, KMDICA, and KMDIA and sponsored by Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Seoul Metropolitan Government, Kotra, KHIDI, KMA, KHA, Korean Medical Women's Association, Korean Nurses Association, KMDSA, KMEA, and Digital Bosa, KIMES 2019 was held on the entire first floor and third floor, and Grand Ballroom and Lobby, taking the space of 40,500㎡ in area.

KIMES 2019, which is held under the theme "Meet the Future," includes 695 domestic manufacturers, 129 companies from the US, 185 companies from China, 84 companies from Germany, 53 companies from Japan, 59 companies from Taiwan, 23 companies from Italy, 20 companies from Switzerland, 17 companies from the UK, and 14 companies from France, totalling 1,403 companies from 36 countries. The show will exhibit about 30,000 high-tech medical equipment, hospital facilities, medical information system, health care rehabilitation equipment and medical related goods.
This year in particular, imging equipment companies like Samsung Electronics/Samsung Medicine, DK Medical System, Listem, Alpinion Medical System, LG Electronics, SG Healthcare, DRG and also global companies like GE Healthcare and PHILIPS have participated. Also, major domestic and overseas equipment companies like InBody, Selvas Healthcare, Hanshin Medical, BIT Computer, DS Maref, Stratek, Lutronic and Insung Medical participated.
In addition, exhibited items related to robotic medical devices have recently been attracting attention in the global medical market. In this show, domestic and overseas manufacturers such as artificial joint surgery robots, walking assist robots, and robotic rehabilitation systems are participating to demonstrate advanced robotic medical devices. In addition, seminar is held to share 3D printer technology and application examples in the medical field, and domestic and overseas 3D printer makers have participated to show 3D printing parts used for various cancer operations and customized caps for endoscopy used in hospitals. Visitors will be able to see the 3D printing parts and request for consultation.
During the exhibition period, 72,000 Koreans and 3,850 foreign buyers from 80 countries are expected to attend. This exhibition is expected to be the chance to reaffirm the excellence of Korean products through consultation of domestic market worth 2.1 trillion KRW and export consultation worth 580 million KRW. This will bring not only the effect of substituting the imported goods but also the effect of expanding the export channels as well.

For the convenience of visitors and improve the exhibition effect, the exhibited items have been categorized: On first floor, Hall A exhibits Treatment and Medical Information, Hall B/D is Grand Ballroom, and Lobby exhibits Healthcare and Rehabilitation Equipment. On the third floor, Hall C exhibits Inspection and Diagnosis Equipment, Hall D exhibits Diagnosis and Hospital Facilities, and Hall E exhibits Healthcare and General Medical Institution.
In addition, to reflect the trend of medical device field that has been broadened to AI, deep learning, and robot science and the interest towards advanced parts and materials, MedicomteK 2019 (Medical Components Technology Exhibition) is held as a concurrent event in COEX Hall D.
Every year in KIMES, commendations is held to give prize to those contributed to improving the level of International Medical Equipment & Hospital Equipment Exhibition and activating the medical equipment industry. KIMES award is held to give out prizes in the names of Health and Welfare Committee (2 prizes), Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (3 prizes), Ministry of Health and Welfare (3 prizes), and Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (2 prizes).
Medical Korea 2019 (Global Healthcare & Medical Tourism Conference), concurrently held with KIMES 2019 to create business synergy starting from this year, is an annual international medical conference and exhibition hosted by KHIDI to exchange information and expand domestic and overseas network. A total of 10 sessions including International Medical Market, Discovering a New Paradigm, Prospect of Global Exchange and Cooperation in Medical Education, Seeking a New Service Strategy for Foreign Patients, Digital Healthcare Strategy and New Market Seeking, Online Marketing Trends in Medical Service, and Innovation of Medical and Wellness Tourism (Yonsei University Health and Welfare Research Center) centered on hospital services will be given at COEX Hall D.
Following this year, Global Medical Equipment Plaza (GMEP 2019) will be held in conjunction with KIMES. GMEP is a major integral conference in medical and bio industries organized by KOTRA. Two-hundred sixty medical device buyers from 60 countries participated in the conference to run an international buyer-invited consultation. Consultation titled Medical Device Advancement Strategy to enter the regions of North America/Southeast Asia/CIS/Southwest Asia/Africa is also held.
In addition, EU Gateway program that consists of technology exchange briefing and the exchange of technical information in conjunction with the European Union Healthcare Medical Technology Excellence Exhibition is held in COEX Intercontinental Hotel on Mar. 12-13. Buyer delegation group from Indonesia and Vietnam has been formed to provide a venue for export consultation, inviting medical leaders, government officials, and hospital staff from each country to provide an opportunity to show improved medical care in Korea.
During the exhibition, COEX Conference Center will present keynote lectures by Bidur Dhaul, General Manager of Philips Asia Pacific Headquarters on the subject of Smart Patient Care Solutions. Also, lectures titled Actions to take for Future Environment Created by 4th Industrial Revolution, Future Medical Device and Technology Seminar, Medical Industry Policy Seminar, Special Lecture for Medical Practitioners, Medical ICT and Digital Smart Healthcare Seminar, Medical Management Consulting, 3D Printing Seminar, and Global Trade Conference will be given along with 180 sessions like Seoul Metropolitan Radiologist International Symposium and Physical Therapist Symposium, providing a variety of high-quality medical information to specialists and healthcare professionals.
Domestic municipalities like Wonju, Gyeongsangnam-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, Daegu, and Seongnam, participated and formed joint halls. Pavilion was formed by countries like Germany, UK, China, Taiwan, Turkey, and Pakistan, displaying their outstanding medical devices and information.
For the convenience of foreign language buyers visiting KIMES, free interpretation service is provided at the entrance of each exhibition hall of KIMES at the Free Foreigner Translation Center. For convenient transportation, free shuttle buses will operate from Suseo Station (SRT), Seoul Station/Yongsan Station (KTX), and Songpa Tancheon Parking Lot to COEX back and forth.
To discover outstanding talents in the medical industry, Korea E&EX has been operating KIMES Scholarship since 2014, and has been awarding scholarship to the students in the medical and engineering students. Also, all participants will be eligible to enter sweepstakes that give out premium massage chair and other fabulous prizes at COEX Hall E.
