Pocheon Ildong Makgeolli introduced its makgeolli "1932" and other brands at Jarasum Makgeolli Festival 2016, which ran Oct. 7-9. It was hosted by Korea Makgeolli Association, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Gyeonggi Province, and Gapyeong City and sponsored by aT, Korail Eastern Metropolitan Headquarter, and Naminara Republic of Korea.
Pocheon Ildong Makgeolli is made with water drawn from 230m underground. This makgeolli has been fully matured to give full taste without the harmful substances that can be left in less matured alcoholic beverages. It comes in unpasteurized, pasteurized, and the premium hand-brewed types.
Aiming at showing the high-quality side of makgeolli,Pocheon Ildong Makgeolli launched a premium brand "Damum" Managing Director Km Young-cheol said, "I would like to see the makgeolli market become more active again through this festival."
He also added, "We are planning to focus on selling the unpasteurized and premium ones, and will also enter the Japanese market soon."
In this year's festival, about 150 breweries introduced 600 makgeolli, along with 300 tents available for stay to converge camping culture and traditional drinking culture.
Show guide and information center are available for the visitors, and Korail has extended the period of "Visit Korea Year" and extended the running time of ITX and other transportation to Jarasum, along with discounts for accommodations and tourist attractions near Gapyeong area.
