'1,2-Hexanediol', manufactured and sold by Chungdo Fine Chemical Co., Ltd (CEO Je-Sam, Kim), is harmless ingredients which function like preservative, antibacterial material, and moisturizer for cosmetics and living products.
So far parabens have been widely used as the preservative for cosmetics due to their low cost. However, according to the USFDA, carcinogens were found in many types of parabens (69 types) currently used, and many cosmetics companies have conducted researches on ingredients which can replace paraben from 2008, when the government asked companies to label full ingredients of their cosmetic products.
Accordingly, in Korea as well as in advanced countries including France, Germany, and Japan, '1,2-Hexanediol' has been used as the substitute ingredients along with natural preservatives. Domestically, however, cosmetics companies imported most of the ingredients as no one company has been able to manufacture '1,2-Hexanediol'.
Through consistent research and development, Chungdo succeeded in manufacturing '1,2-Hexanediol' with no odor, no color, and low irritation in 2009, and has exported to Japan. Since then, it continues to export to Japan while providing to domestic cosmetics companies.
A person from the company said, "Currently some domestic companies are providing the ingredients by removing odors from the imported, low-quality Chinese products, and foreign companies from the US and Germany are entering into the domestic market with aggressive marketing strategies, but our company can win in the competition if we provide the best quality products."
He added that even though their company was small, they would try to become a small but strong company by upgrading their product quality, developing substitute materials with the pride that they developed the ingredients for the first time in Korea, and sparing no efforts to provide products meeting the needs of customers.
Currently Chungdo is contacting with not only big domestic cosmetics companies but also small and medium sized ones to expand its supply network, and doing global marketing to advance into other foreign markets. For more information, visit the company website (www.chung-do.com).
