'nanoLambda' launches, apolloTM, its nano plasmonic sensor platform, for everyday personal applications.
nanoLambda, a nano technology startup, announced that its nano plasmonic sensor platform, apolloTM, is now available to development partners for beta testing. apolloTM is a sensor platform for broad range of light, color and material sensing applications. Examples include, but not limited to, bio-chemical detection, wearable health monitoring, environment monitoring, LED sensing, solar light sensing, and accurate color measurement.
"The field of nano plasmonics is rich in disruptive phenomena that could help overcome the fundamental physical barriers of electronics, and inspired many practical uses in scientific and indistrial applications. Indeed, plasmonics is considered one of the post electronics technologies and there is a vast array of plasmonic concepts still waiting to be explored," said Bill Choi, CEO of the company. "Yet, for most of its potential applications, nano plasmonics itself has limitations and issues to be resolved before mass commercialization."
Choi added, "By converging nano plasmonics technology with the brain power of intelligent software and advanced semiconductor wafer process technology, we are now able to introduce one of the very first consumer plasmonics products, apolloTM. Our apolloTM technology allows the conventional optical spectrometer equipment to become a sensor chip. As a very powerful non-invasive material analysis tool, the optical spectroscopy technology has been widely used in a variety of scientific or industrial applications. But the bulky size and expensive cost of spectrometers have prohibited its use in consumer applications. apolloTM sensor is smaller than 4mm x 4mm x 3mm in size and the cost will be affordable for most personal devices such as smart phones, enabling personal everyday applications."
The world's first monolithically integrated apolloTM beta chip will be exhibited at the CES 2012 in Las Vegas with light sensing demonstrations during the show.
Meanwhile, Founded in 2005 in Pittsburgh, PA, U.S.A, nanoLambda, Inc. is an intelligent, nano-optic device manufacturer. The company harnesses the fundamental plasmonic properties of nanostructured materials into application ready systems to create disruptive consumer electronics products and applications in sensing, lighting, and displays.
