Dear.architect is a startup that conducts various projects related to space and furniture, and developed ROOMY in the second half of 2019. ROOMY has expanded its role as a simple wooden block toy by using AR. It has received the 2020 CES Innovation Award last year and received attention from related industries.
The product attaches AR sticker above the anthropomorphic furniture model and is augmented by scanning with the application. Each furniture model has its own personality, and when the smartphone is touched after being augmented, it changes its behavioral patterns and speaks accordingly.
The product Dear.architect is showcasing
this year is a picture book series that can be used with existing products. The
picture book will be released in three series: Brushing teeth, eating meal, and
going to the bathroom, the subject which parents want to teach their children.
The company staff said, "The picture book to be released is not a simple picture book. It is a product that can be used with the existing wooden toy ROOMY. Each picture book has its own AR sticker, and when attached to a furniture model, the anthropomorphic furniture model speaks what's in the picture book. For example, if you attach an AR sticker included in a picture book "Brushing Your Teeth" on the block and scan it with an application, the ROOMY blocks will say things like "You must brush your teeth after eating."
He also said, "After teaching first with picture books, it can provide additional teaching with the toy which the child loves. We will continue to release picture book series, and we will produce picture books that emphasizes the characteristics of each country and region."
Regarding the participation in CES 2021 this time, he said, "It is our second time following last year. We received an innovation award in the VR/AR field with the product we launched last year. We have utilized the feedback from buyers and consumers we have communicated last year to improve the product we are showcasing this year. From now, we will further establish our position as a useful teaching tool beyond toys."
