[Pangyo Technovalley] Edutech company TagHive creates smart classroom by using clicker

TagHive, an edutech company that started with Samsung Electronics' in-house venture support program C Lab (creative lab), is showing prominence in the Korean and Indian markets. TagHive, the first Korean startup to supply its smart classroom product to public schools in India in July, signed an MOU for virtual learning system implementation to improve the educational environment for public school students with the Kaivalya Education Foundation (KEF), entering the Indian education IT market in full force.

TagHive develops solutions for classrooms by using clicker for elementary, middle and high school students, and sells them to the Korean and Indian markets. The company is pioneering the market by branding it as Class Saathi in India and Class Key in Korea and global markets. Class Saathi is a compound word of English and Indian, meaning "companion in the classroom," and TagHive's mission is to enhance the educational and learning effects of students in schools," said Agarwal Pankaj, the CEO of TagHive. He is an educational expert who has completed the IIT Kanpur and Harvard MBA courses, and has invented more than 50 international patents. In 2017, he was awarded the "Innovator Under 35 Award" at MIT Technology Review.

TagHive is the first in the world to develop the clicker solution so that it can be used by connecting to computers and mobiles, and is supplying products to domestic and overseas markets at a price that is 2-3 times lower than that of competitors. It is expanding the solution by separately producing a clicker for teachers. "Class Key is a low-cost, high-efficiency clicker-based solution that can make school classrooms much more vibrant," said Pankaj. He then said, "With Class Key, teachers can conduct simple quizzes and votes, and also check the results in real time. Also, by using Class Key, teachers can operate the class with more fun and efficiency."

On July 8, TagHive supplied Class Saathi to 2080 school in 52 districts in India's second largest state Madhya Pradesh (MP). Its education solution that can produce high educational effects at low cost in schools in many areas of India where smart education infrastructure is not established attracted attention in India, which led to sales. Also, on Nov. 3, an MOU was signed with the KEF in India to introduce the virtual learning system to improve the educational environment of public school students. The project began with the aim of improving the efficiency of virtual learning in schools and expanding student participation in 900 schools in Maharashtra, Haryana, and Odisha areas under KEF.

Pankaj said, "The business is difficult due to not being able to have face-to-face education due to the coronavirus. Despite this, we are focusing on developing the platform to build digital class environment. The education effect can increase by combining online and offline classes, so we are going to develop and build the online education system that is verified." Currently, TagHive plans to develop the support solution so that classes can be conducted efficiently when restarting school education in the post-COVID era.

With this, TagHive is planning to enter the European and US markets along with the development of Southeast Asian markets including India. "We are looking for educational solutions specialists and partners that have marketing channels and can supply our products to schools in the countries we want to enter," said Pankaj. He is now networking closely with ICT companies in Pangyo to expand the market entry in Korea and the overseas and develop a more effective education system. He added, "In Pangyo, there are many support programs that can solve marketing problems for startups that are having difficulties in entering the overseas market, so we are utilizing them well."
