2020 Seongnam International Medical Tourism
Convention (SMC) event will be held online from November 9 to 12.
This event was first held by the national
local government agencies in 2018 to globalize the medical tourism and
healthcare industry in Seongnam-si.
This year, considering the situation of the
COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held in the official website of the
Seongnam International Medical Tourism Convention (www.simtc.org) and
YouTube, instead of meeting with
officials in the medical, tourism, bio, healthcare industry, overseas buyers,
and visitors in person.
On the first day of the event, Seongnam
Mayor Eun Su-mi will declare the opening at 10 am, and there will be medical
tourism/healthcare online PR center, business conference, conference (symposium),
and citizen health lectures for four days.
The online PR hall will be decorated with a
medical tourism exhibition and a healthcare industry exhibition. You can see
the advanced medical devices, virtual reality (VR) medical practice equipment,
and quarantine supplies of 60 companies in Seongnam region at a glance.
The sales channel will be pioneered by
conducting marketing activities targeting 80 buyers from more than 10
countries, including Russia, CIS, Japan, and Southeast Asia.
The business conference will be conducted
by performing export consultation by Korean companies meeting overseas buyers
on screen through the video conference system at 1st floor Event Hall of the
Tancheon Sports Complex Sports Hall.
The city will provide equipment and
interpreters to companies participating in the conference, and more than 80
overseas buyers who will attend the video conference will be supported by local
KOTRA offices.
Academic conferences dealing with business
issues related to medical tourism and healthcare will also be held.
Fourteen experts from Korea and overseas
will be speaking on various topics, starting from Mayor Eun Su-mi on "COVID-19
situation in Seongnam and its response" to Prof. Nieland of York University in
UK on "Alternative to medical tourism after the world stopped and new
directions," Prof. Jin Ki-nam of Yonsei University on "COVID-19 pandemic and
medical tourism in Seongnam-si," Rep. Jeong Yun-taek of Pharmaceutical Strategy
Institute on "Trend and outlook of global pharmaceutical bio industry" to Prof.
Han Hyeong-wook of CHA University on "Change of industry in COVID era and the
future of digital healthcare."
Also, health lectures will be held for
citizens. They will be able to see four classes including "Mind touch for
contracted mind by COVID" by Rep. Kim Chang-ok from Human Company and exercise

Last year, Seongnam International Medical
Tourism Convention was held in the City Hall from September 20 to 22, attended
by 79 overseas buyers from 13 countries and 25,000 people from medical,
tourism, bio and healthcare industries. It also achieved an export contract
worth 4.8 billion won.
Seongnam Mayor Eun Su-mi said, "Seongnam
has 1,611 medical institutions and 14,576 medical personnel, and equipped with
pharmaceuticals, bios, medical devices, and healthcare infrastructure. We will
publicize Seongnam's resources to the world through Seongnam International
Medical Tourism Convention, and reborn as a 'people-centered world high-tech
medical technology city' that sees the future of Korea first."
