[GITEX 2019] Yonsei and Sogang University K-Startups grab the sales opportunity in the Middle East, the land of opportunity

The Gulf Information Technology Exhibition 2019 (GITEX2019) was held at the Dubai World Trade Centre in the UAE for five days, Oct 6-10.

The exhibition features a wide range of products and technologies ranging from home appliances centered on ICT to communication equipment, IT, and Industry 4.0-based technology.

Among them, four K-startups supported by Yonsei, Soongsil and Sogang University Startup Support Group in GITEX FUTURE STARTS Hall were Dogugonggan, Mobiletech, Macurator, BAE Lab, Inpro, and VillageBaby, of which exhibited and completed their entrance to the overseas market.

Dogugonggan showcased its autonomous patrol robot D-BOT in line with the policy from the Dubai government to make unmanned robot police station and introduce robots to replace 25% of policemen by 2030.

The company received request to deliver robots with a stable driving unit for the mining company Nasser AI-Wohaibi, and it is under negotiation.

Inpro introduced Our Farm, which enables automatic ordering system with its IoT livestock feed measuring system.

At the show, it has received request for joint development of wastewater treatment status monitoring system from Muhammad Ali Postdoctoral Fellow, the wastewater reuse lab from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.

Village Baby introduced Babybox, a gift service for pregnant women and babies, and CLACCUP, a portable cup developed with platinum hard silicone.

In search of a startup that meets the sustainability agenda, Dubai's VC company Valuations Partner showed interest in CLACCUP. Village Baby is planning to continue discussion with the sharing of crowdfunding performance results through Wadiz Korea and seding the samples by December.

Amol Shinde, a wedding company based in India, expressed interest in Village Baby's gift curation service, making a step forward to enter the Indian market.

Macurator showcased its kickboard sharing service EV Pass. It can solve the problem of managing the charging and rental return of the shared electric kickboards, and at the same time, it can build and operate a managed sharing service in combination with a specific region or tourism products.

The BOLT Mobility from Miami US of which Usain Bolt has invested has proposed to make a joint venture to expand its market to Asia, and the company officials are coming to the Jeju Headquarters for MOU sighing and discussion on November 15, along with the service launching in Tokyo, Japan.

Also, to enter the Korean market, the world's no. 1 electric kickboard sharing company Bird is under discussion to become a platform operator in Korea, and it will set the terms and conditions within November.

Mobiletech introduced 3D Spatial Information Mapping Service, essential for the safe operation of autonomous vehicles or drones. Since there are many new buildings in Dubai, Mobiletech will check the market demand for collecting and updating spatial information in the buildings and plan to enter the Dubai market with continuous management of local officials encountered in the show.

BAE Lab introduced the shampoo and body wash brand Dr. BAE Organo-Therapy made with eco-friendly ingredients and containers, and upon seeing the high interest in eco-friendly products in the Dubai market, it is planning to enter the Middle East market by expanding the product lineup made with this technology.

An official from Yonsei University Startup Support Group said, "We began our service in 1993 as a startup fostering center and has entered Yonsei University in 2011. It has been promoted as the startup support group, and is being run to encourage the students, faculty and researches to start business and develop technology in a systematic way."

He also said, "The unique nature of the Dubai business requires us to enter the market with local vendors. Korean SMEs that have already successfully entered the Middle East market also felt that building the trust is the most important thing here, and it can be achieved by attending the exhibition for a long time. We now know that we need to continue running this program."

An official from Sogang University Startup Support Group said, "We were selected as the best incubator for 14 years by MSS since 1999. We help new startup companies to establish stable foundations and promote growth."

He also said, "Samsung and other large corporations have recently entered the Middle East market, and the people here know the outstanding quality of Korean products. Knowing that the Korean wave is influencing positively now, we had to come here this year."
