UFIRST, the IT wearable device start up(CEO Hyunsang Lee), carried out the delivery ceremony for the 'NUGUNA Neckband', a wearable assistance device for the hearing impaired, at the Guro-gu Branch of the Korea Association of the Deaf, on October 30th.
This delivery ceremony was arranged as a part of the Good Imagination through ICT Project by the Ministry of Science and ICT, Korea Information Society Agency, Guro-gu, Guro-gu Branch of the Korea Association of the Deaf, and UFIRST. It was used to supply 'NUGUNA Neckbands', so that the quality of life for the hearing impaired may be improved.
UFIRST's NUGUNA Neckband is a hearing-assisting, wearable device for the hearing impaired and the elderly. If sounds around the user, such as car horns or fire alarms, are louder than the pre-set sound limit, the device alerts the user of the direction of the sound, using vibrations. As it isn't obvious that it is for the hearing impaired and only weighs 50g, it can be worn without any pressure, just like any earphones that are worn around the neck by anyone else.
Not only does it alert one of the direction of the sound, but the online neckband model can link up with its own application to set phone alarms, medication alarms, earthquake alarms, and others, and as it can also set the sensitivity to the sound, number, duration, and intensity of the vibrations, it can be used even more handily.
On that day, UFIRST explained how to register the neckband, basic controls, how to add friends from YouTube or KakaoTalk, and how to find more information online, to all those present. In addition, by demonstrating how to register the device with one of the participants, they were able to allow people who are not used to wearable devices to easily control the device.
Many of the audience members noted that the NUGUNA Neckband can improve or remove many of the awkward or uncomfortable occurrences that can happen in day to day lives, and can also serve various useful functions, which resulted in them asking various questions.
One current user mentioned, "The function that alerts me of vehicle sounds or knocking sounds is very helpful when I'm outside." and revealed their satisfaction, which they mentioned helped them with various unsolved issues that they lived with as current hearing impaired people.
UFIRST's wearable device, 'NUGUNA Neckband', is a product that can supplement and replace hearing aids, the only device that supports hearing loss. As the representative product of the NUGUNA brand to provide solutions to improve the lives of the hearing impaired, we are constantly collecting feedback to continue to provide improved products.
Currently, it has been pre-ordered in over 8 countries, and it is planning on actively working to enter the overseas market.
