Pison Contents (www.pisoncontents.com), which garnered attention from the industry by attracting $1 million from Silicon Valley and other investors last month, has signed an MOU with Bareun Music Co-operative bmcoop for joint business for global sound source distribution and publication.
Various related officials, including Pison Contents CEO Ryu Ho-seok and Shin Dae-cheol, chairman of the Bareun Music Co-operative bmcoop, were present for the ceremony. The company and the union made a promise to soon establish a mutually cooperative system for domestic and international distribution and publication of sound sources.
Both emphasized that the creation of a right music environment for both producers and listeners was needed. And this would help solve the current unbalanced and corrupt sound source distribution market. Both said that an effective and fair sound source distribution process could be achieved by securing transparent distribution and copyright management via a computerized online system.
Expressing its opinion on the current domestic and international music distribution structure with Bareun Music Co-operative bmcoop, Pison Contents said: "This business agreement will help musicians immensely. We will try our best to support artists' rights by tracking domestic and international royalties and clarifying all processes via our IT-based distribution technology. This will protect their rights not only here, but also in foreign countries."
Pison Contents is a global sound source distributor that runs Musicspray, a global online music delivery service. The company has signed official direct distribution contracts with major global music service providers, including Apple, Spotify, Google, and Amazon, and is currently distributing more than 50,000 sound sources worldwide. Recently, the company introduced the next generation global sound source distribution technology "SoundDex" and successfully attracted $1 million in investment from venture capital firms in Silicon Valley.
The main figure of Bareun Music Co-operative bmcoop is chairman Shin Dae-cheol, who is both a leader of the band Sinawe and a mentor for KBS TOP BAND. The union was established by music producers in order to solve structural problems that prohibit them from reproducing music. The union was reorganized through musicians and listeners, aiming to find a way for coexistence among those who create popular culture.
The union currently has more than 2,000 members. It has recently abolished sound source service providers' music recommendations for tie-in sales, and is playing a key role in solving problems plaguing the domestic sound source industry. Bareun Music Co-operative bmcoop started its sound source distribution business not too long ago, and through this strategic partnership with Pison Contents, it will secure the necessary infrastructure for foreign sound source distribution and accelerate its distribution business.
