MK Sound's New 950 Series Hits High Note for Home Theaters

Includes All-New High Frequency Driver Designed for Professional Studio Monitors

PR Newswire

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- MK Sound is back. The legendary loudspeaker manufacturer and inventor of the subwoofer has today announced the release of the much anticipated 950 Series. This new series is a premium home theater surround sound system that incorporates high frequency driver technology previously only available to MK's professional customers. The system builds on MK's 35 years at the forefront of loudspeaker development to deliver exceptional three-dimensional sound at virtually any listening position, rendering both music and film soundtracks in their full audio glory.

2010 CES attendees will be able to hear the new MK Sound 950 Series along with a sampling of MK's Professional loudspeakers in Room 30-328 at the Venetian Hotel, home to all High Performance Audio exhibitors.

Professional Tweeter & More

The MK Sound 950 Series consists of LCR950 Left, Center and Right speakers; two SUR95T Tripole surround speakers; and MK's celebrated MX250 subwoofer. Both the LCR950 and SUR95T incorporate the new tweeter created for the company's top-of-the-line professional series used by world-class sound engineers and movie studios.

The new high frequency drive unit is engineered to eliminate high frequency smearing and phase/combing anomalies, minimize dynamic compression and deliver full dynamic range at high output levels with more clarity and precision than loudspeakers of comparable size and cost.

Each speaker in the 950 Series also employs exclusive MK 5.25" polypropylene woofers – two in the LCR950 and one in the SUR95T surround – that are integrated with the new professional tweeter using MK's exclusive Phase Focused crossovers that optimize system performance over a much wider listening area than other crossover designs.

Other features include:

  • Timbre-matched main and surround speakers, with the SUR95T Tripole surround loudspeaker incorporating both a front-radiating monopole and a side-radiating dipole mounted in a single cabinet to deliver point source accuracy as well as an enveloping soundfield.
  • Optimal Tripole surround dispersion, made possible by two 3" mid-tweeters on each side of the SUF95T cabinet oriented in dipole fashion that provide diffuse sound dispersion throughout the room.
  • MK's exclusive Headroom Maximizer Circuit and Deep Bass technology in the MX-250 subwoofer provide astonishing low-end impact and extension
  • The system's dual 12" drivers virtually eliminate even-order harmonic distortion, and double the sound power per watt of amplifier power providing an additional 6dB of output
  • A relatively small footprint for the audio power delivered.

The MK Sound 950 Series also features a new upscale cabinet design with a black satin finish, soft radiused edges, and black metal mesh grilles that are held in place with magnets concealed within the front baffle. This innovation eliminates the annoying buzz or rattle commonly found with cheap, lightweight plug-in metal or plastic fronts.

The system is in the final stages of receiving THX certification denoting high product quality in home theater environments. As with all MK Sound speakers, the 950 system meets and exceeds THX specifications for flat on and off axis frequency response with wide, even horizontal and vertical dispersion delivering superb coverage and consistent tonal character throughout the listening area.

Pricing and Availability

The MK Sound 950 Series retails for $4,795 for a 5.1 system, including three LCR950 front speakers (MSRP $599 each), two SUR95T Tripoles (MSRP $1,199 for the pair) and a dual 12" subwoofer ($1,799). A list of dealers is available at www.mksoundsystem.com or by calling 866-290-2673.
